"Giving Thanks and Giving Back"

What are you thankful for? As citizens of Desha County, we have many reasons to be grateful this holiday season. We live in a community where our friends and neighbors still believe in helping each other.

This month, as we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, there’s another reason to count our blessings. On November 12-18, Delta Area Community Foundation will join with almost 700 community foundations across the United States to recognize Community Foundation Week, a celebration of the extraordinary impact ordinary people can make in their communities through philanthropy.

Right here in Desha County individuals have made gifts to our local community foundation that will be invested to provide a permanent source of funding for the charitable causes that make up the fabric of our community.  This can be seen throughout our county where grants have been awarded groups such as the McGehee Beautification Committee to help install a sprinkler system at the Veteran’s Memorial; the McGehee Desha Alumni Community Center to purchase tables and chairs for the center; the First United Methodist Church to support the Lower Delta Parrish Community Outreach Program; and the Arkansas Rice Depot to support the “Food for Kids” backpack program in Desha County.  These grants, along with many more like them help improve the lives of people in McGehee, and the surrounding counties.

The beauty of Delta Area Community Foundation, and all community foundations, is that virtually no one is excluded from contributing to a community’s betterment. You don’t have to be wealthy to give a gift to your community that will make a positive change in the lives of local people.

Through Delta Area Community Foundation you can establish your own charitable endowment and support the causes you care about the most. Or, you can make a gift to our community’s Giving Tree Endowment, which allows the foundation’s local advisory board to make grants to support emerging needs in our area. Additionally, because Delta Area Community Foundation is a part of Arkansas Community Foundation, you can join a family of philanthropists working across the state to ensure a bright future for Arkansas.

Join us in giving thanks this holiday season and in celebrating the impact that local people are already making in Desha County through Delta Area Community Foundation.

Contributions to Delta Area Community Foundation are fully tax deductible.  For more information on Delta Area Community Foundation, please call Pat Primm Post, Interim Community Foundation Director at 870-352-1288 or visit us at www.arcf.org.
