As I write this, it’s Tuesday, February 14th—otherwise known as Valentine’s Day—one of my most favorite days of the year.  I rank it somewhere on my list between Arbor Day and the day you get called for jury duty.

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been on my soapbox.  This week, I decided to haul it out of storage, brush off the dust bunnies, and climb on board.  So for those of you not in the mood for a little ranting, raving, nagging, and complaining, you should probably just flip on over to the classifieds page.

"Time to Move All Games to Fayetteville and See What Happens."


When the University of Arkansas builds on the north end of Razorback Stadium and adds the additional luxury seating, the lure of the dollar will be too great -- all games will be moved from Little Rock.

A Polite Situation...


I have had leaders who seemed to never see things my way.  That is because people are different, and they want significance in the workplace.  There is nothing wrong with those differences.  Those differences bring diversity and innovation.  Even small teams are different and unique.

High School Recruiting is Strange Business


Coaching legend Bobby Bowden once blamed his demise on recruiting services. To some degree, he started to rely on them too heavily instead of his own due diligence. After all, how could all these services be wrong with their estimations on a kid’s abilities? If Rob Shields Prep Services says a child is four stars along with all the other services, they must be right.

A Polite Situation...


If you lead a “team” of people, it is truly important to trust them and give them autonomy.  Just remember, when you release them to do their jobs, it’s going to be like making salad. All of the textures and ingredients make it work-like a symphony of tastes.  Some will be tossed.  Some will be neatly layered.  Some will have everything on the side.  I think you get the point.
